It is a common phenomena on college that students occupy seats.Different people have different point of view about that.

For one thing,it's not very fair to the student who want the seat but get there late without friends occupying seats for them.For another,it's fairly easy for some students to get the seat with occupying seats if they couldn't get up very early.

On the other hand, reserving a seat violates the rule of fairness. No matter how late you come to class, the seat is still reserved for you even though many others are eager for that seat.
